Paul Arcand Retires from Montreal Morning Radio Show
After Nearly 35 Years on Air
Legendary Broadcaster Leaves 98.5 FM After 20 Years
Paul Arcand, the longtime host of the popular Puisquil faut se lever morning show on 98.5 FM, has retired after nearly 35 years on air. The announcement was made on Thursday, March 17, 2023, and Arcand's last show was on Friday, March 31.
Arcand's departure marks the end of an era for Montreal morning radio. He has been a fixture on the airwaves for decades, known for his sharp wit, insightful commentary, and engaging interviews.
"On ne fait pas de la radio pendant aussi longtemps s'il n'y a pas de chimie," Arcand said. "Ce bout-là va être plus dur à remplacer." (Translated: "You don't do radio for as long as I have without chemistry. That part is going to be harder to replace.")
Arcand's retirement has been met with widespread sadness from his listeners and colleagues. Alain Crête, Arcand's longtime co-host, said that "Paul is a unique talent, and his departure will leave a big void in Montreal morning radio."
In a statement, 98.5 FM said that it is "deeply grateful for Paul's contributions to the station and to Montreal radio broadcasting as a whole." The station said that it will be announcing a new morning show host in the coming weeks.
