Coat of Arms and Keys
The flag of Vatican City is a vertical bicolour of yellow and white with the white half charged with the coat of arms of Vatican City, a papal tiara and the crossed keys of Saint Peter. Today both the coat of arms and flag of Vatican City bear crossed gold and silver keys bound with a red cord and surmounted by the tiara.
Papal States
The following is a list of flags used in the Vatican City and its predecessor, the Papal States. The Vatican flag with keys on it and a yellow band on the left-hand side has become recognizable as a symbol of this little country in Rome.
